ARC Review of Sacred by S.L. Scott

Hey book peeps!  Check out my rave review of Sacred by S.L. Scott!  This book was one epic love story and is definitely on my re-read list!

“She’s my undoing before we’ve even begun.”

Sacred is book three in the Kingwood series by S.L. Scott and was utterly phenomenal! It took me a bit to write this review. I absolutely loved this book and honestly, I think it’s one of the best books I’ve read this year. Maybe it’s because I was completely invested in the characters since a lot of them came from the Kingwood Duet, and I fell in love with all of them. While I’m sure that was part of it, for me, it’s not always the words I remember, but the feeling those words evoked. And dear lord did this book deliver.

I am a no spoiler kind of girl so bear with me as I may be a little vague about the details but I will, hopefully, get you as excited to read this book as I was reading it.

Clara, or Dove as Cruise calls her, has a horrific past. She is struggling to deal just as Cruise is still fighting his demons. I am a believer is fate and if any two people were ever fated, it was Clara and Cruise.

As we saw with King and Sara Jane, when these men fall, they fall hard and fast. Cruise was no different. He saw her and knew she was it for him. Dealing with her past is a struggle, but it’s one he is willing to help her with to keep her. Just as she brings light to his dark. She’s his yellow.

“She fills a room with her light, making me forget about the darkness I usually struggle to evade.”

These two had my whole bookwhoreish heart by Chapter 2. Their love is deep and their chemistry is scorching hot. Mmmmm…I can’t forget how much I LOVE Cruise and his dirty mouth!

I was in awe of the loyalty with both these wonderfully layered characters. Not only to each other, but to the ones they love.

I cried so freaking hard when her past was revealed. Then came one hell of a twist that had me saying NO FUCKING WAY! And as it progressed and more came to light there were some holy shits and oh my gods.

“With my lips to his skin, his dark melds into mine and together we become a lighter shade of gray.”

This right here…was my absolute favorite quotes in this book. Don’t get me wrong, I highlighted like half the book, but this, this was just WOW for me. I think this describes Cruise perfectly.

“He’s an angel dressed as the devil, making me want to commit sins against the heavens.”

Just when you think the rollercoaster of emotions is coming to an end, you get hit with another what the ever loving fuck moments. This book was full of suspense, betrayal, love, and hot AF sex.

I loved this book so much and I hated that it had to end. I fell hard for these characters and wanted them to continue speaking to me. This is definitely going on my re-read list.

Holy shit.

I see pink.

Bubblegum pink.

Curvy ass under a fitted skirt. Tight as fucking—good God almighty. Like a flame, I’m drawn to her. I stand, not even sure why, but I’m moving before I can stop myself following a bubblegum pink skirt that just so happens to be attached to a killer little body and a head of brown hair that flows to the middle of her back.

“Hey?” What the fuck? Why’d I yell that?

Damn. I stumble. She reaches as if she’s going to catch me before I fall. I’m falling all right, but not to the ground. I stop, standing tall and straightening my shoulders. Real smooth. I actually fucking stumble when she looks back and our eyes meet.

A halo of yellow sunshine surrounds her, an angel sent from the heavens to save me. The beauty asks, “Are you all right?”

A smile that rivals the heavens appears. “Yes, you.”

“I’m good, so great.”

That pretty smile grows, and a sweet giggle follows. “I’m glad.” The longer we hold eye contact, the more her composure falters, an unease entering her pretty hazels. “Okay, I should go then.”

“No. Stay.”

“Stay?” she asks in the same confused tone as the last question.

“Yes.” Stepping closer, I hold out my hand. “I’m Cruise. What’s your name?”

Her hand slips into mine and I’m tempted to not just shake it, but never let it go. “Nice to meet you, Cruise. If you’ll excuse me—”

That’s when I notice the books held to her chest with her other hand. “Are you a student?”

“No.” Her reply comes fast with a look of horror filling wide eyes. “I’m not. Are you?”

The relief between us is palpable as our sighs fill the space. Her eyes glance down to our adjoined hands, my hold on her still just as firm. “May I have my hand back, Cruise?”

“Yes,” I reply, then reluctantly release her.

“I’m late for an appointment.”

I don’t want her to go. I like looking at her. I like talking to her and I really like holding her hand. She has fine features, but I can’t stop staring at her cherry-kissed lips. She turns to walk away too soon, so I call out, “Hey, I never got your name.”

“Maybe I’ll see you around.”

She’s not showy when she saunters off, but I watch rapt by every sweet sway of her hips. I find myself tugging at the collar of my shirt, that all-wrong-itchy feeling returning.

Fuck it.

I run after her.

Sidling up beside her, I keep her pace, and ask, “Why won’t you tell me your name?”

“Because you don’t need to know it.”

“I want to know it.”

She stops, and looks at me. “Just because you want it, doesn’t mean I owe it to you.”

Feisty. Getting a woman’s name isn’t usually a problem for me, but I respect her argument too much to counter with one of my own. “You’re right. Absolutely right.” This time I notice how the white sweater hugs the front of her body. Damn. I invade her personal space, captivated by her defiance. “I’ve been rude. My apologies.”

“I don’t need an apology, but I do need to go. I’m running late.” She takes a few steps away from me, but says, “Have a good life.”

My hands rise in the air, exasperated with this outcome. “You’re really not going to tell me?”

Her laughter splinters the air. “Unfortunately no. I can tell you’re the kind of trouble I should definitely walk away from. Name intact.” Quick stepping with determination, I watch as she crosses the parking lot.

Living in the capital of Texas with her family, Scott loves traveling and avocados, beaches, and cooking with her kids. She’s obsessed with epic romances and loves a good plot twist. Her favorite color is blue, but she likens it more toward the sky than the emotion. Her home is filled with the welcoming symbol of the pineapple and finds surfing a challenge though she likes to think she’s a pro.

So about seven years ago, I started a blog…

So about seven years ago I started my first blog.  It was a mom blog where I talked about my kiddos, the crazy life of being a mommy and the books that I loved and pushed on others that kept me sane.  It was a short-lived one, but one I put my heart into while it was active.

My kids are not little monsters anymore, they are moody teens in high school, but the older they got, life was just as hectic, if not more.  Before my oldest, now 16, was able to drive, we were running one kid to dance practice 5 to 6 days a week while getting the other to basketball or baseball practice and games also five days a week.

I decided to take a walk down memory lane and read through some of my old blog posts.  I realized several things.

1. My book lists I push on my peeps haven’t changed a whole lot.  They will always include romance, but back then, there was also some great nonfiction thrown in. Here is a list from December of 2011.  Check them out and enjoy ❤

2. My kids (most kids really) are freaking hilarious! The “virgin” talk with an 8-year-old was a WTF mom moment.  Read this past post below.

3. My oldest is not a little anymore.  He will be 17 in February (only four months), and I am NOT prepared for him to be an almost adult.

Post from mommy past:

Never a Dull Moment

So I was driving my daughter home from dance class this past week, and she piped up from the back seat and said, “Mommy, what’s a virgin?”  I almost wrecked the car.  This is not something that should be coming out of an eight and a half-year-olds mouth.  I, of course, was completely taken off guard.  I looked at the radio and thought… Did this come from a song? What song is playing? A million other things flew through my mind in a nanosecond.  Not wanting to lie to her I told her reluctantly that it’s someone who has not had sex before.  Duh!!  Why did I not say it is a non-alcoholic drink or even its someone who hasn’t done ‘something’ before.  Anyway, she then proceeded to say “well then that’s inappropriate!”  Huh?  I get that this is not a normal conversation but, I was confused.  I then said, “Honey, what do you mean?”  and then I got this…..”That van said Iowa Virgin’s Home on the side of it!”  Trying really hard not to laugh, I said to her, “Honey, are you sure it didn’t say Iowa Veterans Home?”  Her response was, “Yeah, I bet it did….”   Ahhh, never a dull moment with this one. I love you Reese’s Pieces!

So as I sit here and cry over my babies growing up, I am grateful for a short time I captured these cute yet embarrassing musings in writing.

Author Interview and Giveaway!

Author Interview

I had a great time this week fostering S.M. Phillips for #FosterAnAuthor3!  I loved interviewing her and learning about this new to me author!

Thank you so much for being here and doing this interview for Obsessive Book Whore!

OBW: How long on average does it take you to write a book?

Steph: Right now that can vary. My youngest hates it when I get the laptop out, but I can usually write a book anywhere between 6-12 weeks.

OBW: What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

Steph: I used to research quite a lot, but then I realised my mind wandered and I’d end up on Facebook or watching YouTube tutorials, so now I research only when I have too. I like to make things up as I go a lot too.

OBW: Do you have a favorite book or author quote?

Steph: My favourite book of all time is Harry Potter. I always re-read it every year and my favourite quote is ‘always.’

OBW: What is your favorite movie?

Steph: Dirty Dancing and Beauty & the Beast.

OBW: What is the first book that made you cry?

Steph: New Moon when Edward left and I’m not ashamed to say I had full on ugly cry tears on a packed out tram on the way home from work.

OBW: How many hours a day do you write?

Steph: I don’t usually go off hours, but I always aim to hit between 3-6k words a day. If I manage that then I’m a happy lady.

OBW: If you were to date one of your characters, who would it be and why?

Steph: Oh, this is hard. If I had to choose it would be Max Wild as he was the first Alpha that I unleashed into the world. But my bad boy Jensen Blake comes a close second!

OBW: How do you select the names of your characters?

Steph: As strange as this may sound they just come to me as I write.

OBW: What is a must have while your writing?

Steph: Coffee, coffee and lots more coffee. Can you tell I’m obsessed with Coffee?

OBW: Ahhhhh, a girl after my own heart. ❤

OBW: Do you have any interesting writing quirks?

Steph: I like to write by hand and then type it all up.

OBW: Where do you find your inspiration for your books and characters?

Steph: Inspiration can hit me at any time. My current project came to me while I was putting my youngest to bed and I had to run downstairs to quickly jot it down.

OBW: What book have you recently read that you would highly recommend?

Steph: I have just finished reading Girls and Boys by M.B Feeney. It’s a perfect nostalgia read taking you right back to the heart of the 90’s.

OBW: What is your favorite genre to read?

Steph: Romance. I’m an absolute sucker for a happy ending.

OBW: Do you have any hobbies?

Steph: Yes, I love to Netflix and chill and I love to see my girls too.

OBW: Halloween is just around the corner…what is your favorite sinful treat?

Steph: Chocolate covered pretzels.

OBW: Where can people stalk you?

Steph: Please feel free to stalk me on any of the following social platforms… the more the better as I love me some stalkers 😉

Author Interview and Giveaway!

Author Interview.png

I had the pleasure of Fostering Author Anne Mercier this week for #FosterAnAuthor3. We have known each other for a while and I loved working with her this week and having so much fun doing it!

One of the things I wanted to do was get others that haven’t read her books to get to know her and

Sooooo… let’s get to it!!

OBW: Hi, Anne!  Thank you so much for being here and doing this interview for Obsessive Book Whore!

AM: I’m so honored!  Thank you for the opportunity!

OBW: For those who don’t know you, can you tell the readers a little about yourself and your books?

AM: Well, I’ve loved writing all of my life. I got married at a young age and was a stay-at-home mom, so my kids were my priority. When they got older (teens) is when I started taking writing seriously—about 2004. I submitted the first book I ever completed to an agent and she signed me off of that book. That was before self-publishing was popular so everything went to traditional publishers. Well, turns out that book had what my agent called the “Goldilocks” syndrome: It was either too hot, or not hot enough. Basically, that was about the time when you had erotic romance or romance, there was no in-between. Everything was cut and dried. So, that book just didn’t make the cut. After working on another book, then starting another, I lost my focus due to personal things in my life, so writing went on the back burner for a while.

In 2012, I got back into reading in a major way. I read and read and read some more. Then in 2014 a friend asked me why I was reading and writing reviews when I could be writing my own books. I didn’t have an answer other than I was afraid. Of course I was! I mean, hello! This is part of my soul!  Anyway, I started writing the book Whispered Truths, but about a quarter of the way into it, the characters from the Rockstars series were too loud and demanding. They wanted their story told right then and there. I shelved WT for the time being and wrote Falling Down (Rockstar book 1) in three weeks. I got it ready and published it on September 2, 2014. Three weeks later it became an Amazon Bestseller reaching number 21 on the charts. It was crazy. I wasn’t ready or prepared, but people wanted more. So, I found someone to help me field messages and emails, etc., then I wrote Blush, Rockstar Book 2, which was released on December 9, 2014; and A Very Xander Christmas (Rockstar Book 2.5, short story) on December 14, 2014.  The rest, they say, is history.

In the last three years, I wrote and wrote and wrote some more.

The series I have available are:

The Rockstar series (12 books to date)

Adult contemporary romance with graphic sex and tons of F bombs and swearing as rockers seem to do, lots of laughs, and a huge sense of family. This is not your typical Rockstar series by any means. It also has a touch of mafia which will lead to a spinoff at a later date.  There will be six or seven more books in the series before it’s complete.

The Truths series (one book so far)

Mature young adult series—mature in that it has graphic sex and explicit language, best friends helping each other through some difficult times. The parents are the “bad guys” for more than one character in this series. There will be four more books in the series before it’s concluded. I don’t have any dates for publication.

The Way series (two books so far).

This series begins after high school graduation and moves into college. These first two books are about loss and depression, coping with grief, bullies, starting over, and finding love. There will likely be three or four more books in this series before it’s complete.

The Forbidden Fantasies series (one book so far).

This will be a series of erotic short stories where couples get to act out their forbidden fantasies. This series is up in the air as far as how many short stories will be in it. So far I have two more in mind, but there may be more before the series is complete.

So, you see, there’s something for everyone.

OBW: How long on average does it take you to write a book?

AM: It usually takes me anywhere from three weeks to three months—usually a month or so.

OBW: What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

AM: Depending on the book, I research quite a bit. In the book Ballad in which the heroine, Nicole, had leukemia and was undergoing treatments, it took a lot of extensive research to get the facts right. Each book has it’s own level of research—from music to PTSD, geography and direction, etc. Even writing fiction requires doing your homework.

OBW: Do you have a favorite book or author quote?

AM: I have many favorite books but off the top of my head I can name three that I always go back to for re-reads:  Waiting On The Sidelines duet by Ginger Scott, the Manwhore series by Katy Evans, and 180 Seconds by Jessica Park. They always help me, as a writer, regain my focus.

    Favorite quotes:

“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” ~ Dr. Seuss

“When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.” – Maya Angelou

OBW: What is your favorite movie?

AM: Again, I can’t name one. It’s just impossible! The Hunger games movies. Deadpool. You’ve Got Mail, While You Were Sleeping.

OBW: What is the first book that made you cry?

AM: I’m pretty sure it was The Heart of Devin MacKade by Nora Roberts or Love’s Encore by Sandra Brown. They were the first authors that I binged on—thank you mom!. I started with the smaller, thinner books—Harlequin or Loveswept, then worked my way through every single book they’d written. I admit not to being up to date on everything currently.

OBW: How many hours a day do you write?

AM: I prefer to write in shorter increments unless the words are flowing. Then I write longer. Usually I write for 4-6 hours… but 8 or more if the characters are chattering.

OBW: If you were to date one of your characters, who would it be and why?

AM: Oh boy.  This is a tough one. I could pick Jesse Kingston, the dirty talking alpha rocker who’d be sure to pleasure me over and over. I could pick the romantic Kyle Cooper from Whispered Truths or the hot-hottie Sebastian Smith from The Way series… I’m sure people are expecting me to pick Xander from the Rockstar series, but I don’t think that’s who I’d pick—even though it’d be a guaranteed fun time.  I think I’d pick Cage Nichols from the Rockstar book Amplify (Book 3 in the series). He’s one of those quiet men with deep thoughts and a big heart. He’s dangerous and ruthless when he needs to be but with his woman, he’s giving and caring and sensitive. To me, he’s the whole package. He’s even funny in ways he doesn’t even know. *swoon*

OBW: How do you select the names of your characters?

AM: I had a list of favorite names that I started with. I also researched Italian names since there are so many Italian characters in my Rockstar series. That took some time and still does. Now, I look at my reader’s names, mostly in my Facebook Rockstar group, and use them—which they approve of!  The male names—I’ve made a huge list—I’ve also done this for last names. Last names are the trickiest for me. They have to sound right with the first name, if that makes sense. Naming characters is a tricky business! Lol

OBW: What is a must have while your writing?

AM: Music. I have to have music while I’m writing. Writing is what gets my creative juices flowing (ha! I said ‘juices’… that’s almost as bad as moist!)

OBW: Do you have any interesting writing quirks?

AM: Kinda. I need something to drink—preferably caffeinated—and usually some kind of chewy candy like Mike & Ike’s or gummy bears. I need to be alone—mostly—when I’m writing otherwise I lose focus. I hate getting interrupted… it pisses me off like nothing else. It’s like… do you not see me working over here? Grr. ❤

OBW: Where do you find your inspiration for your books and characters?

AM: Honestly? I don’t know. They’re just there—the storylines. The characters develop as soon as I start writing. I don’t outline on paper, but I have a pretty good idea where the story is going to go and what the characters look like before I get started, but I really don’t find out who they are until they show me. Writing is seriously awesome!

OBW: What book have you recently read that you would highly recommend?

AM: I can recommend three:  Wicked Beginnings (Wicked Bay Book 1) by LA Cotton; Nineteen Letters by Jodi Perry; and 180 Seconds by Jessica Park.  Those three books are hanging with me long after I’ve finished them. I love when books do that.

OBW: What is your favorite genre to read?

AM: Contemporary romance—lately I’ve been into young adult, mature young adult, or college-type setting.

OBW: Do you have any hobbies?

AM: I’m pretty boring, I think. My hobbies are reading, listening to music, watching movies or favorite TV shows. Really, that’s about all. See? Boring!

OBW: Halloween is just around the corner…what is your favorite sinful treat?

AM: You might think this is weird, but my favorite Halloween candy is candy corn. I think it’s because we don’t get it all that often. As far as chocolate/candy bars go: Milky Way or Dove with caramel. Really, anything with caramel. I’m a caramel whore. I admit this freely and without shame. ❤

OBW: Where can people stalk, errr get in contact with you?

AM: I love being stalked… uh, contacted/followed!!  If you’re on Facebook, please join my AM Rockstars group ( It’s so much fun. Everyone gets along, we try very hard to keep it drama free and so far we’re succeeding, we talk about books, boys, and things going on in our lives. It’s a wonderful group of people who are insta-friends and, to me, feel like family.

Seven Sins. Seven Days

Chandler Lexington

I need a muse for my next exhibit.

She has to be young

She has to be a virgin.

And she has to be willing to do everything I tell her to. No questions asked.

Emma Jones

Never in a million years did I Imagine that I’d be selected for this
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Now I’m being whisked away to a private
Island to spend a week alone with world-renowned painter, Chandler

He’s gorgeous, mysterious and eccentric.

I thought he was just going to paint me, but every seductive glance has a
secret hidden intention behind it, and I’m beginning to think this is about
more than creating art.

Heat level: Smokin’ Hot

From USA Today bestselling author Sky Corgan comes a new sinfully wicked
stand-alone dark romance novel.

“Is that the warmest thing you brought?” Chandler looks at my attire with

“I hadn’t expected to be flown to the Alps,” I joke, extending my fingers
towards the fire to warm them.

“Here.” He stands and takes off his jacket, walking over to put it on me.

I blush as I slide my arms into the sleeves, thinking of how heavy it is.
More than that, of how it smells like Chandler. There’s a strong muskiness
about it with notes of citrus and rosemary. Totally money. Completely man.
I close my eyes, wrapping myself in the warmth of the jacket and the scent,
knowing that I’m wearing a stupidly content grin. This is the happiest I’ve
been since arriving here.

Chandler moves everything over to where I’m sitting. Apparently, he had
assumed I would be brave enough to sit beside him. He was wrong. I’ve been
trying to keep a safe distance because I have no idea about his personal
life—if there’s someone of the female variety in it. I want to keep things
between us as professional as possible because I want him to see me as a
professional. I want to walk away from this experience with his respect.

“I would ask you if you like port, but I can only assume you’re not a wine
connoisseur.” Chandler picks up the decanter from the table and pours us
each a glass of the liquid that’s so dark red it’s almost black.

“That I am not,” I admit.

“Dark chocolate compliments it well. You should try it.” He hands me a

The way he’s staring at me makes me nervous. He’s watching me so intently.
It reminds me of how I was gazing at his paintings in my room earlier,
studying them.

My eyes follow his hand as he picks up one of the chocolates. It’s a small
round disc, not like anything I’ve seen before, though I’m not really a
chocolate connoisseur either. More than likely, this stuff is expensive
like everything else here.

I reach out to scoop a few chocolates from the bowl, but Chandler stops me.
“Here. Allow me.”

I retract my arm, confused by his intentions until he offers me a chocolate
from his own hand, bringing it up to my lips and silently requesting that I
open my mouth. I can only hope that the darkness around us hides the heat
coming to my cheeks. I can’t believe that Chandler Lexington is
hand-feeding me chocolate. And the way he’s looking at me… I don’t feel the
cold anymore at all.

“Let the chocolate settle on your tongue, then take a drink of the port.”
His fingertips brush my lips as he slips the chocolate into my mouth. For
being so subtle, it’s one of the most sensual things I’ve ever experienced.

Read The Will before you watch:

Early in her life, Josephine Malone learned the hard way that there was only one person she could love and trust: her grandmother, Lydia Malone. Out of necessity, unconsciously and very successfully, Josephine donned a disguise to keep all others at bay. She led a globetrotting lifestyle on the fringes of the fashion and music elite, but she kept herself distant.

While Josephine was trotting the globe, retired boxer Jake Spear was living in the same small town as Lydia. There was nothing disguised about Jake. Including the fact he made a habit of making very bad decisions about who to give his love.

But for Josephine and Jake, there was one person who adored them. One person who knew how to lead them to happiness. And one person who was intent on doing it.

Even if she had to do it as her final wish on this earth

Read Three Wishes before you watch:

When Lily Jacobs was born, she inherited Fazire – a genie. Her family had three wishes and they’d only ever used one so Fazire was stuck in the human world. This worked since he’d become a member of the family anyway.

Even with a genie, Lily’s young life wasn’t perfect. To escape the kids making her miserable at school, Lily buried herself in romance novels. One day, when the teasing was just too much, she used one of her wishes. She told Fazire she wanted to find a man like in her books and she made the most complicated wish Fazire had ever heard. Her wished-for man had to be impossibly handsome, virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless (amongst a dozen other things).

He also had to think she was beautiful and he had to love her more than anything in the world.

Nathaniel McAllister wasn’t born to a life where there were such things as genies granting wishes. His life was filled with drugs, crime and neglect. He was running errands for a gangster before he was in his teens and, even though life and hard work led him to wealth and respectability, he always knew, deep down, he was dirty. When Nate met Lily he knew he was no good for her but as virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless as he was, Nate was no match for the pull of sweet, innocent Lily.

Unfortunately, Lily’s wish included that she and her hero go through trials and tribulations to test their love. And Fazire wasn’t only a good genie, he loved Lily – so he gave her exactly what she wanted.
