“She’s my undoing before we’ve even begun.”

Sacred is book three in the Kingwood series by S.L. Scott and was utterly phenomenal! It took me a bit to write this review. I absolutely loved this book and honestly, I think it’s one of the best books I’ve read this year. Maybe it’s because I was completely invested in the characters since a lot of them came from the Kingwood Duet, and I fell in love with all of them. While I’m sure that was part of it, for me, it’s not always the words I remember, but the feeling those words evoked. And dear lord did this book deliver.

I am a no spoiler kind of girl so bear with me as I may be a little vague about the details but I will, hopefully, get you as excited to read this book as I was reading it.

Clara, or Dove as Cruise calls her, has a horrific past. She is struggling to deal just as Cruise is still fighting his demons. I am a believer is fate and if any two people were ever fated, it was Clara and Cruise.

As we saw with King and Sara Jane, when these men fall, they fall hard and fast. Cruise was no different. He saw her and knew she was it for him. Dealing with her past is a struggle, but it’s one he is willing to help her with to keep her. Just as she brings light to his dark. She’s his yellow.

“She fills a room with her light, making me forget about the darkness I usually struggle to evade.”

These two had my whole bookwhoreish heart by Chapter 2. Their love is deep and their chemistry is scorching hot. Mmmmm…I can’t forget how much I LOVE Cruise and his dirty mouth!

I was in awe of the loyalty with both these wonderfully layered characters. Not only to each other, but to the ones they love.

I cried so freaking hard when her past was revealed. Then came one hell of a twist that had me saying NO FUCKING WAY! And as it progressed and more came to light there were some holy shits and oh my gods.

“With my lips to his skin, his dark melds into mine and together we become a lighter shade of gray.”

This right here…was my absolute favorite quotes in this book. Don’t get me wrong, I highlighted like half the book, but this, this was just WOW for me. I think this describes Cruise perfectly.

“He’s an angel dressed as the devil, making me want to commit sins against the heavens.”

Just when you think the rollercoaster of emotions is coming to an end, you get hit with another what the ever loving fuck moments. This book was full of suspense, betrayal, love, and hot AF sex.

I loved this book so much and I hated that it had to end. I fell hard for these characters and wanted them to continue speaking to me. This is definitely going on my re-read list.

The war was waged. The king got his queen, but where did that leave me?

When I thought there was no hope, that suffering this lonely life was my destiny, I saw her. The bubblegum pink skirt caught my attention, but her doe eyes captured my heart. Could she be my SAVIOR?

With her, I don’t have to hide the demons that haunt me, or to relive my darkest days alone.

With me, she’s free to be whoever she wants to be. She’s amazing.

Together, we’re two people clinging to a ray of sunshine that only the other can see.

I let my guard down. I got too comfortable. I thought the war had been won when, in reality, it had just begun. When old debts accrue, past demons return to collect their dues.

To find the SOLACE these young lovers crave, will they have to sacrifice the one thing they hold most SACRED?

From New York Times bestselling author, S.L. SCOTT, comes a new, emotionally driven, romantic suspense standalone.

So about seven years ago, I started a blog…

So about seven years ago I started my first blog.  It was a mom blog where I talked about my kiddos, the crazy life of being a mommy and the books that I loved and pushed on others that kept me sane.  It was a short-lived one, but one I put my heart into while it was active.

My kids are not little monsters anymore, they are moody teens in high school, but the older they got, life was just as hectic, if not more.  Before my oldest, now 16, was able to drive, we were running one kid to dance practice 5 to 6 days a week while getting the other to basketball or baseball practice and games also five days a week.

I decided to take a walk down memory lane and read through some of my old blog posts.  I realized several things.

1. My book lists I push on my peeps haven’t changed a whole lot.  They will always include romance, but back then, there was also some great nonfiction thrown in. Here is a list from December of 2011.  Check them out and enjoy ❤

2. My kids (most kids really) are freaking hilarious! The “virgin” talk with an 8-year-old was a WTF mom moment.  Read this past post below.

3. My oldest is not a little anymore.  He will be 17 in February (only four months), and I am NOT prepared for him to be an almost adult.

Never a Dull Moment

So I was driving my daughter home from dance class this past week, and she piped up from the back seat and said, “Mommy, what’s a virgin?”  I almost wrecked the car.  This is not something that should be coming out of an eight and a half-year-olds mouth.  I, of course, was completely taken off guard.  I looked at the radio and thought… Did this come from a song? What song is playing? A million other things flew through my mind in a nanosecond.  Not wanting to lie to her I told her reluctantly that it’s someone who has not had sex before.  Duh!!  Why did I not say it is a non-alcoholic drink or even its someone who hasn’t done ‘something’ before.  Anyway, she then proceeded to say “well then that’s inappropriate!”  Huh?  I get that this is not a normal conversation but, I was confused.  I then said, “Honey, what do you mean?”  and then I got this…..”That van said Iowa Virgin’s Home on the side of it!”  Trying really hard not to laugh, I said to her, “Honey, are you sure it didn’t say Iowa Veterans Home?”  Her response was, “Yeah, I bet it did….”   Ahhh, never a dull moment with this one. I love you Reese’s Pieces!

So as I sit here and cry over my babies growing up, I am grateful for a short time I captured these cute yet embarrassing musings in writing.
