Review: Just Exes by Charity Ferrell

This is book three in the Blue Beech series and is Lauren and Gage’s story.

Lauren and Gage were high school sweethearts and had planned a future together, but Lauren mysteriously ended up breaking things off and refused to tell Gage why. They both went separate ways. Now ten years later, he is back in Blue Beech, Iowa to help his ailing father, as one of the local cops.

This was so well written. I love second chance love stories. Factor in some suspense and mystery, I’m yours. I loved these characters. Ms. Ferrell does a wonderful job of pulling the reader into the story. I seriously did not want to put this book down and by the end I was emotionally spent.

Let’s talk about the characters.

Lauren was sweet and a little naive if not loyal. She was the good girl that sacrificed her happiness to only to lessen someone else’s burden. I really liked her. Although there were a couple of Gage’s actions that I would have liked to see her react a little differently (ie the part he explained about the other women) She was so compassionate and trusting even after being hurt so badly (which she blamed herself for).

Gage was devastated after the breakup, rightfully so, but he tried to move on the best he could. He never got over the love of his life enough to fully move on though which caused a lot of issues that led to the tragedy that led him back home. I loved his character. Did I want to junk punch him on several occasions, yes, yes I did. But he was operating on the knowledge he had, not the full truth of what happened between them.

Overall, I think this series is utterly fantastic and this book was quite possibly my favorite so far.

Holy wow! What a wild angsty ride this was. This book had me gasping in disbelief a couple of times then swooning with the feels in the next breath.

Hutton Everest was a numbers guy for his brother’s multi-million dollar company. He was also sexy and hard to resist.

Ally Edward’s has a secret. One that will tear them apart before they rely get a chance to get started. Unless she can convince her royal parents otherwise.

I loved the relationship that developed between Ally and Hutton. They were both out of their element but willing to try for their happily ever after. It seemed throughout that there were obstacles to overcome. Whether it was her self doubt in being able to have both him and the crown or the arranged marriage set by her parents to her parents themselves. There was lots of angsty goodness to be had.

This is a must read! Those Everest brothers are almost as sexy as the Crow Brothers. I fell in love with Ethan and swoony lust with Hutton. I can’t wait to see what happens with Bennett! #iclimbedmteverest

He stood, joining her as they tossed their half-finished drinks in the trash. They headed to the car and he beat her there, opening the passenger door before she could grab the handle herself. He turned back and she stopped short. He caught her before she bumped into him, grasping her around the waist and pulling her close. She sucked in a surprised breath but didn’t back away, her face inches from his. Her mouth so damned close.
He knew better, he really did but he was tired of denying himself what he wanted and his body was definitely on board. He waited for a sign she wasn’t right there with him. If she pulled back or jerked away, he’d apologize and they’d move forward from there. Instead she swayed toward him, sealing her fate.
He grasped her waist, anchoring himself by touching her, the soft sweater doing little to hide her slender body or delicate curves. He tipped his head, sliding his tongue across her lips and with a soft moan, she parted her mouth and let him inside. She tasted of vanilla and coffee, a sweet flavor that was all Mia.
Their tongues touched, tangled, and his body came alive with a hunger he hadn’t known before.
She raised her arms, hands coming to his biceps, holding on for a brief second before she gave in and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close, giving him all the excuse he needed to deepen the kiss. He tilted his head and consumed her, swirling his tongue around the further recesses of her mouth.
He had no wall, no car door to push her against, which was a good thing because he wouldn’t have been able to control himself if he crushed his body against hers.

Austin and Mia made my heart happy.

This book was sweetly sexy in all the right places. I couldn’t get enough! I loved the slow progression of their feelings for one another. Both trying to deny the spark for different reasons, until that spark caught fire.

Bailey was the cutest and I absolutely loved the bond between her and Mia. Mia’s past was heartbreaking and to see her nurturing spirit with Bailey was sweet.

There were a lot of components that brought this thrilling book to life. If you love second chance love stories with some suspense thrown in, you MUST read this book!

The Choices I’ve Made by J.L. Berg was one of those books that sticks with you. I love books that have the what-if factor and this one has it in spades.

This was a new-to-me author so I wasn’t sure what to expect reading this book. I went into this blind and I was completely enamored from the first page to the very last.

It was a beautifully written story full of truths, heartbreak and healing. When a man broken by grief twelve years earlier comes back to his hometown, he’s not only faced with the ghosts of the past, but also with the what-ifs of the now broken woman he left behind.

“I love you, Jake Jameson, for a day, a month, and a thousand lifetimes. Welcome home.”

It speaks of true love, but sometimes that’s not enough. Jake and Molly had a complicated love that even after their years apart, it was like the were always together. Their love for one another never died.

Can two broken souls heal each other or are they forever doomed to be apart.

Was such an emotional read, the last part of the book almost broke me. Both had to find themselves to be whole before finding one another again to be truly happy and content.

I highly recommend this second change romance and can’t wait to read more from this author.

ARC REVIEW ~ The Playboy Batchlor by Rachel Van Dyken

I have never read a book by this author that I didn’t absolutely LOVE and this book was no exception. Although, this one was unique in its story-line, I would still recommend it to everyone I come across.

The Playboy Bachelor is the second book in The Bachelors of Arizona series. Just so you know, this is a true standalone. I did not read book one and usually even when authors say it’s a standalone, I end up wishing I had read the first book to completely understand what is going on. Not with this one! I jumped right in and couldn’t put it down!

Both Brantley and Margot carry the scars of their past around like a scarf dousing them in misery. Both lost and needing each other to find their way home.

This was an emotional read. I loved the sweet elements of it and that sometimes what you need to heel is a second chance on life and love.
